Food Safety commission conducts special drive at e-commerce warehouses in Hyderabad

Telangana Food Safety Commissioner conducted a special drive on warehouses of e-commerce platforms such as Zepto, Blinkit, Big Basket, Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, Amazon, Reliance Jiomart on Thursday.

At least 75 warehouses were searched and 98 enforcement, 124 surveillance samples were collected. About 1,903 units of expired food, food articles that were mis-branded or had misleading labels, were seized.

Nearly 76 kg of expired articles, stale food, rotten vegetables were discarded and 32 improvement notices were issued.

Inspections at food outlets along 12 highways:

Earlier this month, the task force inspected 12 highway food outlets along the NH-65 (Hyderabad-Vijayawada), NH-163 (Hyderabad-Warangal), NH-44 (Kurnool-Hyderabad) covering Sangareddy, Warangal and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.

Serious violations were observed at The Palace Hotel on NH-9 including unhygienic kitchen, pest & rodent infestation, uncovered/unlabelled food, clogged drains, improper segregation of veg/non-veg, and suspected synthetic colours.

License was suspended for the hotel under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 and 107.5 kg of unsafe food (prawns, fish, chicken, paneer, gobi fry) were discarded on the spot.

Other outlets including Taj Palace Hotel, Athidhi 44 Drive-In, Lepakshi Restaurants in NH-44, Minerva, Vivera, Utsav & Orissa Dhaba in NH-65 were found with poor hygiene, unlabeled food, expired ingredients & reuse of cooking oil. 7 samples were collected, and 8 improvement notices were issued.

At Utsav Restaurant, Pedda Kaparathi (NH-65: Chityala Mandal): 16 kg stored meat & seafood, 3 kg butter, 20 kg red gravy, 10 kg manchurian, 3 kg chicken lollipops and15 kg coloured food were discarded on the spot.

At Athidhi Restaurant, Koyalagudem (NH-65: Choutuppal): Discarded 8 kg spoiled chicken & meat, 5 kg expired dry fruits, 10 L spoiled sauces, 12 kg other spoiled food, and 1.5 kg synthetic colours.

Sangam Hotel, Koyalagudem (NH-65: Choutuppal): Found 2 kg synthetic food colours; discarded 8 kg long-stored cooked food without use-by labels.

The Fort Food Court (NH-163): Discarded 6 kg coloured prawns, corn, and chicken; seized 15 kg red gram dal, 9 kg turmeric, 18 packets noodles, and 12 kg tamarind (label-defective).

Minerva Coffee Shop & Blue Fox Restaurant (NH-163): Discarded 1 kg synthetic food colours and 5 kg label-defective items.

Hotel Vivera (NH-163): Discarded 12 liters fo expired cool drinks and 2 kg long-stored gravy.

Taj Palace Restaurant (NH-44: Gadwal): 8 kg stale raw chicken and 3 kg boiled vegetables discarded and destroyed. No bills found; notice issued for operating without a valid licence.
