Hyderabad: A 3-year-old ailing child was smothered and killed by his own father and his body dumped in Musi river, reports said.
The child was initially reported to be missing from the Bandlaguda area on Saturday. Police investigation into the matter revealed that the father killed his son. The toddler’s body has not been recovered yet, as per reports.
Mohammed Akbar and Sana Begum registered a complaint with Bandlaguda police on Saturday morning, claiming that their youngest son, Mohammed Anas, was missing.
Sana, an employee at Niloufer Hospital, told the police that her son was missing when she came back from her shift on Saturday morning. Her husband Akbar, a vegetable vendor, also claimed that he did not know the whereabouts of their son.
Child’s father confesses to crime:
Akbar, who was the only one at home when his son went missing, was questioned by the police. Finding his answers to be inconsistent, the police checked his call records and CCTV footage, which showed him using his bike and carrying a bag before his wife came back from her shift.
On further interrogation, Akbar reportedly confessed to the crime. He admitted that he smothered his son by using a pillow and later stuffed his body into a bag and travelled with the body to puranapul and then dumped in the Musi river, Bandlaguda Inspector R Devender told Times of India.
The child was suffering from a heart ailment, which led to regular arguments between the couple. The arguments were about providing better medical care for the child.
Akbar was reportedly frustrated about it and therefore decided to kill him, police officials said.
Police deployed a disaster response force to the Musi river to recover the body but have not yet been successful. A criminal case has been registered against the accused and the missing peron’s report has been altered to murder.
