UP Board Exam 2026: Marks to be deducted for OMR errors; MCQs to carry 20 marks

To enhance objective question assessment and align with modern evaluation standards the changes have been made. Students must handle OMR sheets correctly as a minor mistakes may lead to loss of marks.

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Board is set to conduct the IPMSP Class 10, 12 exams 2026 with some changes in the question paper structure and evaluation process. As the exam date is near, preparations have intensified to ensure students are fully prepared for the new format. A significant shift in the upcoming board exam is the introduction of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 20 marks which students need to complete on an OMR sheet.

The changes have been made to enhance objective question assessment and align with modern evaluation standards. Students need to handle OMR sheets correctly, as even minor mistakes may lead to loss of marks.

OMR sheet errors may result in negative marking

Under the revised format, the first section of the question paper will consist of MCQs whose responses must be recorded on an OMR sheet. The slightest error in filling out the OMR sheet could result in negative scoring.

UP board exam dates 2026

Over 44,000 students are likely to appear for the 2026 high school and intermediate board exams. The exams, scheduled to begin on February 18, 2026.

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the UP Board has revamped its question paper format to promote analytical and conceptual understanding. District School Inspector Sant Prakash confirmed that all exam centres will operate under CCTV surveillance, with static magistrates and centre administrators deployed to maintain fairness and prevent malpractice.

Over 200 schools barred from serving as exam centres

The UP board has barred a total of 254 schools from serving as exam centres for the upcoming 2026 high school and intermediate exams on the use of unfair means. The decision has been that as it was found that these institutions were involved in facilitating cheating during last year’s board exams.
