New Delhi: In a horrific, shameful incident, a child who was merely 14 months old was allegedly raped and killed in North Tripura's Panisagar area, according to a report by PTI. The girl reportedly came to visit her maternal uncle in North Tripura when the incident took place.
The accused in this incident arrested
According to the police, the accused, reportedly a daily wager, was arrested from Nilambazar in Assam. According to the officer-in-charge of Panisagar police station, Sumanta Bhattacharjee, the rape happened on Saturday, after which the accused murdered and buried the child in a paddy field in the area.
According to Bhattacharjee, the accused took the toddler from her mother, saying that he was taking her for an outing. He added, "Since he did not return the child to her mother after three hours, the parents became anxious. As the news spread, hundreds of villagers started searching for the child."
The police later found the child's body buried in the paddy field. The police, after conducting the post-mortem, handed over the body to the family. The probe into the incident is going on, and the police will accused will be produced before a local court on Monday.
In other news, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has questioned how the Durgapur gang rape victim was outside her college premises at 12.30 am, drawing sharp criticism from the BJP.
"This is a private college. The girl was studying in a private medical college. How did she come out at 12.30 am? As far as I know, the incident took place in a forest area. I do not know what happened. The investigation is on," Banerjee said. "Private medical colleges also should take care of their students, especially girls. The girls should not be allowed to go outside (college) at night. They have to protect themselves also," she added.
The alleged gang rape took place in a forested area near the IQ City Medical College and Hospital in Durgapur, where the victim, a second-year MBBS student from Odisha, was reportedly assaulted. The father of the 23-year-old victim has slammed Mamata for her insensitive remarks regarding his daughter. He clarified that his daughter was not out at 12:30 am as claimed by the Bengal CM.
