PMML launches major digitisation drive for rare archives

TN extends deadline for PMFBY and Farmer Registry enrolment to December 1

Tamil Nadu has extended the deadline for farmers to register in the Farmer Registry and enrol under the PMFBY crop insurance scheme to December 1, Agriculture Minister M R K Panneerselvam said. The Centre had earlier waived the mandatory Farmer ID requirement for the Kuruvai season but reinstated it for Samba crops. So far, 7.95 lakh farmers have insured 19.06 lakh acres—61% of the Samba cultivated area. The minister urged remaining farmers to complete registration with the required documents before the new deadline.

Jharkhand man gets life term for killing pond caretaker

A Seraikela-Kharswan court in Jharkhand has sentenced Lakhiram Singh to life imprisonment for murdering pond caretaker Shivcharan Singh in 2022 following a dispute over catching fish. The court also imposed a Rs 20,000 fine. According to prosecutors, Lakhiram offered liquor to Shivcharan before beating him to death in the Nimdih area. The case was filed on the basis of an FIR by the victim’s relative.
