New Delhi: Karnataka's Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, which was supposed to be a center for the correction of prisoners, has become a place of fun for criminals. Many videos have already emerged showing birthday celebrations in prison, gunfight parties, and even criminals with mobile phones in their hands. So much so that even an ISIS recruiter and a serial rapist have gained unauthorised privileges inside the jail.

A prison for the enjoyment of prisoners

An investigation is underway into who made these videos viral. Amid all this, another explosive piece of information has come to light, raising suspicions that Parappana Agarhar is being turned into a sort of 'liquor factory'.

In Parappana Agrahara, criminals are reportedly enjoying all kinds of luxuries. The video of the oil party that went viral in Thiche is a real example of this. As soon as the news, including the viral video, was broadcast on TV9, the police, who had registered a case, started investigating. It has come to light that prisoners are making oil inside the prison and getting high.

Police investigating the alleged oil party that took place on December 31 in the 7th Barracks of Parappana Agrahara Jail reportedly learned that no alcohol was supplied from outside. Therefore, when the investigation was launched, suspecting that alcohol was being manufactured inside the prison, there was a shock.

How was alcohol prepared inside the prison?

It has been revealed that the accused in the illegal distillery case are making liquor using items found in the prison, and there are two teams for making liquor in the prison itself. One team was collecting piles of fruits, including rotten apples and grapes, as well as grains, wheat, and sugar, in the prison barracks. Another team was bringing in yeast to be used in the prison bakery.

The items brought by these two teams were mixed, put in a container, and kept in a corner of the prison for months to make oil. When it was time for a party, the items in the container were squeezed well and filled into a water bottle. Investigators suspect that guards were aware of this but kept quiet about it by accepting money from the prisoners.

When the investigation into the oil party began, it was discovered that the oil was prepared in a similar manner at the party held on December 31. It is said that there are three main reasons behind the fact that inmates not only made alcohol in prison but also made videos of the party.

While one reason was that prisoners send videos to their families to show that they are doing well in prison, another is that prisoners send videos to their boys to get a buildup, collecting weekly payments. Another reason is that they wanted to blackmail the officers by showing them the video to have their way.

The Karnataka government has suspended or transferred top jail officials, including the Chief Superintendent and ASP, and has ordered a high-powered inquiry committee to probe the matter. Home Minister Gangadharaiah Parameshwara has ordered to take "stringent action" against those responsible.
