Why were wedding ceremonies stopped at Karnatakas Shri Someshwara Swamy Temple?
Shri Someshwara Swamy Temple in Halasuru, Karnataka, halted weddings years ago due to divorce cases damaging its reputation. Priests refused involvement in court proceedings.
Wedding ceremonies at the Shri Someshwara Swamy Temple in Karnataka's Halasuru have been stopped for the past few years, and the temple management has given a clarification on this issue.
In the information submitted to the state government, it was stated that such a decision was taken earlier to avoid slander of the temple. Marriage ceremonies at Shri Someshwara Swamy Temple have been suspended for the past six to seven years.
Temple's reputation took a blow
Earlier, couples who got married at the temple used to go to the courts and file for divorce when they were not compatible. The priests were also being produced in the courts during the divorce case. For all these reasons, the priests were also refusing to perform the wedding in the temple, the information letter said.
The management board, which sought to prevent any accidental unpleasant incident, had taken this decision to avoid tarnishing the temple's image and spreading false publicity about it. The current executive officer of the temple said in a statement that the previous officers had verbally brought it to the attention of the department's superiors and stopped the wedding ceremonies at the temple.
