New Delhi: An inter-state love story took a tragic turn after a Pakistani woman alleged that her husband abandoned her and left her stranded in Pakistan. The situation became more complex when she claimed that her husband was planning to remarry in Delhi while his marriage with her was still legally valid.
Initial findings suggest that the woman, identified as Nikita Nagdev, married Vikram Nagdev on January 26, 2020. Vikram had been living in Indore on a long-term visa. According to Nikita, his behaviour changed drastically after they moved to India.
The story took a sharp turn in July 2020, when Nikita was allegedly forced to return to Pakistan through the Attari border. Vikram told her that her visa had some technical issues. Each time she expressed her desire to return to India, Vikram refused. She shared her ordeal in a video message, saying she would lose faith in the justice system if her case was not resolved. She also appealed to women to support her, saying many face similar struggles in their marital homes.
Nikita further claimed that her in-laws’ behaviour changed significantly after she discovered Vikram’s alleged affair with a relative. When she informed her father-in-law, he dismissed her concerns, saying that extra-marital affairs among men were common and nothing could be done about it.
She added that during the COVID-19 lockdown, Vikram forced her to go back to Pakistan and has since prevented her from returning to India.
Fearing that she would be replaced, Nikita lodged a written complaint on January 27, 2025.
The case was taken up by the Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre, which is authorised by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Notices were issued to Vikram and the woman he was allegedly planning to marry, and a hearing was conducted. However, no resolution was reached.
In its report dated April 30, 2025, the Centre stated that since neither Nikita nor Vikram is an Indian citizen, the matter falls under Pakistan’s jurisdiction. It also recommended Vikram’s deportation to Pakistan, according to NDTV.
In May 2025, Nikita approached the Indore Social Panchayat, which also recommended Vikram’s deportation. Indore Collector Ashish Singh later confirmed that an inquiry had been ordered and that action would be taken based on its findings.
