New Delhi: Punjab's Moga saw a very unique competition in which participants were supposed to sit idle for as long as possible. The participants were only allowed to read newspapers and books. They were not supposed to eat or drink anything and also not allowed to use their mobile phones or use the loo.
The competition was organised in Gholian Khurd village of Moga. This was an attempt to keep people away from their mobile phones, for some time, according to the organisers of the competitive event.
The organisers said that 55 people participated in this "idleness competition". Of them 2 were declared joint winners, after having sat idle for more than 31 hours. The winners were identified as Satbir Singh and Labhpreet Singh, both of whom sat idle for 31 hours and 5 minutes.
While Satbir Singh is a resident of village Nathe Ke, Labhpreet hails from Roli village. Both men sat idle for more than 30 hours and did not consume anything during that period. The third position in the competition was bagged by a man named Chanan Singh, who managed to sit idle for 29 hours. He is a resident of Dhudike.
The winners said that more such competitions should be organised as it helped people stay away from their mobile phones. They also said that such events allowed people to inculcate good habits like reading newspapers and also indulge in meditation, which brought them closer to God. One of them said that he used to scroll reels on his mobile phone all day, but this competition helped him be away from his mobile and was fun.
The winners of the competition were given cash rewards by the organisers. Satbir and Labhpreet both received Rs 3,500 in cash, a box of pure ghee and a bicycle each. Chanan received a cash prize of Rs 1,500.
While 3 of the people won the competition, 52 of the 55 participants lost, said organisers. They managed to sit idle only for about 20 to 24 hours.
