Shocking: Kanpur topper dies by suicide hours before Class 12th pre-board exam

Kanpur: In a tragic incident, a class 12th student, who topped Kanpur district in class 10th in 2023, died by suicide on Monday. The 17-year-old took his own life hours before his physics pre-board exam, the police said.

The reports of Raunak Pathak’s death have shocked his neighbours and the coaching institute. He had scored 97.4 percent in his Class 10th exam and used to stay at the Saket Nagar locality of Lucknow. The boy used to study at Brij Kishori Devi Memorial Inter College.

According to his father Alok, who works at a private firm, his son left at around 6:30 AM, but did not return. As he did not pick up calls from the family, Alok and his daughter Mini started searching for him. The bike was found near Juhi Railway yard after a few hours. "I never imagined my only son would take such an extreme step. He was so bright,” Raunak's father said.

Om Narayan Singh Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector, said that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. "The reason behind the suicide is unclear. We are examining his mobile phone and speaking to his friends,” he said while speaking to the news agency PTI.

Class 8th student tries to die by suicide

In another incident, an class 8th student tried to die by suicide from the third floor of his school in Dongre Nagar in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam. The boy was rushed to a private hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. He is a national-level skating player.

As per the school, the boy had brought his mobile phone to school. He had reportedly recorded a classroom video and uploaded the same on social media. The school administration, after discovering the video, gad called his parents to discuss the alleged violation of rules.
