he owner of Kanchipuram-based Sresan Pharmaceuticals, Ranganathan, has been arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Special Investigation Team in Chennai. He is allegedly responsible for producing contaminated cough syrup, specifically Coldrif, linked to the deaths of at least 22 children in Madhya Pradesh.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has formally notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the recall of three cough syrups: Coldrif, Respi Freshtor, and Relife.

Manufacturers have been instructed to halt production immediately. CDSCO confirmed that none of these problematic products were exported from India, a clarification issued after the WHO sought information on potential international shipments.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that children in the state suffered kidney damage and succumbed after consuming the toxic syrup, which contained high levels of diethylene glycol.

He criticised the Tamil Nadu government for its perceived lack of cooperation and demanded a thorough investigation by the drug controller. Ranganathan has been brought to Chhindwara for further questioning as the investigation continues into this tragic incident.
