Ayush Mhatre broke Rohit Sharma's record with his sensational 48-ball hundred for Mumbai in their clash against Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26 on Friday. Mhatre starred with the bat with an unbeaten 110 off just 53 balls as Mumbai chased down the target of 193 runs to beat Vidarbha by seven wickets at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

18-year-old Mhatre, who has been retained by his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the new season, etched his name in record books by surpassing Rohit to become the youngest player to score a century in first-class, List A and T20 cricket. Rohit held the record, having scored a ton in each of the three formats by the age of 19 years and 339 days.

It was a terrific knock from Mhatre, who took the Vidarbha bowlers to the cleaners en route to his ton. His unbeaten 110 off 53 balls was laced with eight sixes and as many fours. Mhtare combined with Suryakumar Yadav (35) and Shivam Dube (39 not out) to take Mumbai home in a tricky 193-run chase at the Ekana Stadium.

His century came on the day when he was announced as the India U-19 team's captain for the U-19 Asia Cup, which is set to get underway on December 12 in Dubai. Mhatre, who has been making giant strides at the age of 18, already holds the record for the fastest-ever century in the history of youth Tests. He slammed a 64-ball ton against England U-19 in a youth Test in July this year.
