Team India batter Shreyas Iyer is on the road to recovery after suffering a spleen injury during the Australia tour in October this year. The ODI vice-captain has been out of action for India since his injury and missed the recently concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa at home. While he has been making steady progress, Iyer is yet to get the nod from doctors and the BCCI medical staff to resume proper training.

As per a report in India Today, Iyer is set to undergo his next ultrasound scan in the second week of December before a plan is developed for his rehabilitation. The star batter will head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for his rehab after consulting a specialist regarding the result of his latest ultrasound scan.

The report claims that Iyer earlier underwent an ultrasonography (USG) scan in Mumbai and his results were reviewed by sports medicine specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who noted that the batter has been making decent progress. Iyer has resumed his day-to-day activities and has been given permission to do basic isometric exercises.

However, he can return to proper training only after receiving clearance from the doctors and the BCCI medical staff. As per the report, Iyer is unlikely to recover fully in time for the ODI series between India and New Zealand. He will miss the three-match series against the Kiwis, which is set to be played from January 11 to 18.

Iyer injured his left lower rib cage while attempting an acrobatic catch during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney in October this year. Scans later revealed that the Indian cricketer suffered a spleen laceration. He underwent treatment at a hospital in Sydney under the guidance of the BCCI medical staff.

Iyer recently returned home from Sydney after getting permission to fly and resumed normal activities. However, his return to action for India is unlikely anytime soon. The BCCI and the Indian team management don't want to rush the batter into action, given the nature of his injury, and he will, in all probability, miss the ODI series against New Zealand.
