Anant Kumar Singh is contesting the 2025 Bihar legislative assembly elections from the Mokama constituency with JDU ticket. Anant Singh has stood for elections multiple times and sat in office for consecutive terms in the Bihar legislative assembly.

He was born on January 5, 1967, in the Barh block of Patna district, to Chandradeep Singh, a farmer. Singh had three brothers who have passed away. One of them, Dilip Singh, was also a former MLA and MLC of the Bihar government from 1990 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2006 respectively. Anant Singh has a wife and three kids. His wife, Nilam Devi, is also a politician and former MLA. Even though there is no clear information available about his educational background, he is believed to be literate.

Anant Singh started his political journey in 2005 when he contested the Bihar Legislative Assembly election from the Mokama constituency and won his first term as an MLA. He got his first candidacy from a JDU ticket. In the next election of 2010, Anant Singh retained the Mokama seat and became an MLA for the second term with JDU. In 2015, he fell out with JDU and quit the party as they formed an alliance with RJD. However, he still managed to win the Mokama seat for a third term as an independent candidate. In the 2020 elections, Anant Singh received a ticket from RJD and managed to win a fourth term as an MLA. But he was unable to complete his term after being convicted for illegal possession of weapons. Anant Singh was disqualified from being an MLA in 2022. His wife, Nilam Devi, won the by-elections and completed the remainder of the term.

When JDU broke away from the Mahagathbandhan in 2024, Nilam Devi also left the RJD and joined JDU. In the same year, Anant Singh was acquitted in the illegal arms case by the Patna High Court, ending the 10-year-sentence he was serving since 2022. The man has a total of 38 criminal cases, including 7 murder charges, 11 attempted murder charges and 4 kidnapping charges, against him.

If he wins this time, it will be his 5th time as an MLA in his political career. Polling for the Mokama constituency took place in the first phase of elections on November 6, 2025.
