Mangal Pandey is a candidate running for the upcoming Bihar legislative assembly election from the Siwan constituency of the state under the BJP ticket. Mangal Pandy has been a long standing member of the BJP, essentially all through his political life.

Pandey was born on August 9, 1972 to a farmer family in Maharajganj, Siwan to Awadhesh Pandey and Premlata Pandey. He has a younger sibling. In 1998, Pandey married Urmila Pandey, a business woman from Bhitti, Saran District. In 2000 they had a son, who they named him Harsh Pandey.

In terms of his educational qualifications, Pandey completed his secondary education in Maharajganj, Siwan in 1987 and higher secondary education in Science from Devi Dayal High School. He also has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Magadh University, Bihar.

His first introduction to politics came when he joined the ABVP in 1987 after which he continued to move up the ranks within the student party and later continued his journey when he became a member of the RSS. He formally joined the BJP in 1989 as a working committee member. Later in 1992, he was elected as a working committee member for the Siwan wing of the BJP in Bihar, the moment which can be said to be his formal entry into full time formal politics. He was sworn into the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, in 1994 and became the Saran district in charge of the BJYM in 1995. 

From 2013 to 2017, Pandey served as the state president for BJP in Bihar. He was also made in charge of the BJP in Himachal Pradesh during the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections in the state. Pandey is currently serving as a member of legislative council for the Bihar government and also as the Minister of Health & Family Welfare. In 2021, Pandey faced controversy after the death of a retired soldier, who was suffering from Covid was not given treatment in a state hospital as the officials were preparing for Mangal Pandey’s visit. Pandey will be contesting the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Bihar from the Siwan constituency as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Polling for this constituency took place in the first phase of election on November 6, 2025.
