In 2025 Bihar legislative assembly elections, Ram Kripal Yadav from BJP is in fray from Danapur constituency. Yadav has been a prominent politician in Bihar and has a significant presence in the union government as well. Yadav was born in Patna, Bihar on October 12, 1957. He has a wife and three children.
Yadav has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) and Bachelor in Law degrees from Magadh University in Patna. He has two criminal cases against him. Yadav’s political career gained prominence in 1985 when he became the Deputy Mayor of Patna. He served as the Deputy Mayor till 1986. In 1992, he became a member of the Legislative Council in the Bihar government. In 1993, he became a Lok Sabha member after winning the by-election. In 1996, he was re-elected for a second term in the Lok Sabha, but served only till 1997.
The following year, he became a member of the Bihar Legislative Council once again. In the same year, he was selected as the chairman of Bihar Dharmik Nayas Parishad. In 2004, he was re-elected for a third term in the Lok Sabha. Yadav was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2010. In 2014, Yadav was elected into the Lok Sabha for the fourth term.
From November 9, 2014 to July 5, 2016, Yadav served as the Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. From July 5, 2016 to May 25, 2019 he served as the Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Rural Department. In 2019, Yadav was re-elected for his fifth term in the Lok Sabha. However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, he failed to emerge victorious.
Yadav was once a strongman in the RJD and a close confidante of the party founder Lalu Prasad Yadav. However, he left the RJD in 2014 and joined the BJP after his stronghold, Pataliputra constituency was given to Lalu Prasad’s daughter, Misa Bharti for the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
