Shivdeep Lande, a 2006 batch IPS officer who resigned from the role, has decided to make his political debut in the Bihar Assembly polls from two constituencies, Araria and Jamalpur. 

Lande was born on August 29, 1976, into a farmer’s family in Maharashtra's Akola. Among the scant public detail available about his family, it has been known that his father’s name is Wamanrao Ganpatrao Lande. Also, his wife is Mamta Shivtare, the daughter of a former MLA and Minister of State for Maharashtra. 

The rise of Shivdeep Lande

Lande rose from humble beginnings and did his basic studies from Saraswati Vidya Mandir High School in Akola. He has a Bachelor’s of Electrical Engineering from Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering in Maharashtra's Shegaon. He did his police training at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, in Hyderabad before he joined the Indian Police Service. 

Initially, Lande was selected for the Indian Revenue Service, but later joined the IPS in 2006. He has served as Inspector General of Purnia and as the Superintendent of Police in Bihar's Araria, Purnia, Munger and Patna districts. His service in Patna has received substantial public praise and glory for his dedication to his work and his accomplishments in the district. In September 2024, he resigned from the IPS after 18 years of service. Also, he has authored a book titled “Woman Behind the Lion” describing his life and his mother’s sacrifices for him and his success.

Shivdeep Lande in Bihar Assembly elections

Shivdeep Lande contested the Bihar elections in 2025 from Araria and Jamalpur from his own party, Hind Sena that he founded on April 8, 2025. The polling for Jamalpur constituency took place in the first phase of the elections on November 6 and the polling for Araria took place in the second phase on November 11.
