Begusarai is one of the 243 state assembly constituencies in Bihar, located in the Begusarai district. It is also part of one of Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha constituencies. The current MLA is Kundan Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who won the 2020 election with 74,217 votes, defeating Amita Bhushan of the Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of 4,554 votes.
According to 2024 Election Commission data, Begusarai has a total of 359,529 registered voters, including 189,692 male electors, 169,829 female electors, and eight electors of the third gender. In the 2020 elections, the constituency had 336,598 registered voters, comprising 179,360 male, 157,230 female, and eight third-gender electors. In 2015, the total registered electorate stood at 311,575, with 167,593 male, 143,973 female, and nine third-gender electors.
Voter turnout in Begusarai has remained consistent in recent elections. In 2020, 187,229 of the 336,598 registered voters cast their ballots, marking a turnout of 55.62 per cent. In 2015, 169,854 of 311,575 registered voters participated, resulting in a turnout of 54.51 per cent. Polling for Begusarai in the upcoming elections is scheduled for the first phase on November 6, 2025.
Begusarai covers an area of approximately 214.97 square kilometres and is located at 25°29'04.9"N 86°09'11.9"E. The constituency shares its borders with six other assembly constituencies: Cheria Bariarpur, Bakhri, Sahebpur Kamal, Mathani, Teghra, and Bachhwara.
