Darauli has rich mythological connections with the epic Mahabharata and Buddhism. The village of Don in Darauli is associated with Dronacharya, the teacher of Kauravas and Pandavas in the Mahabharata. In the same village is the Don Stupa, which is said to store the vessel which carried Buddha's remains after his cremation and stored before they were divided into relics.
