Darauli is located in the Siwan district of the state. This seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. The current MLA from this constituency is Satyadeo Ram of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) (CPIMLL), who secured 81,067 votes in the 2020 elections, beating Ramayan Manjhi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 12,119 votes.

As per the 2015 election data, the total number of registered electors are 288,232. As many as 155,614 electors in this constituency during the 2015 elections were male, 132,616 were female and 2 belonged to the third gender. Voter turnout in this election was 51.30% as 147,849 electors out of the total registered electors exercised their franchise.

Darauli has rich mythological connections with the epic Mahabharata and Buddhism. The village of Don in Darauli is associated with Dronacharya, the teacher of Kauravas and Pandavas in the Mahabharata. In the same village is the Don Stupa, which is said to store the vessel which carried Buddha's remains after his cremation and stored before they were divided into relics.

This constituency covers an approximate land area of 351.04 square kilometers and its geographic coordinates are 26°07'35.0"N 84°08'53.5"E. Darauli shares its borders with two other legislative assembly constituencies of Bihar, including Ziradei and Raghunathpur. It also shares an interstate border with Uttar Pradesh.
