Current MLA from this constituency is Niranjan Roy of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) who secured 59,778 votes in the 2020 elections, beating Maheshwar Yadav of Janata Dal United (JDU) by a margin of 7,566 votes. As per the 2024 Election Commission data, the total number of registered electors in Gaighat are 330,371.
