Garkha

Garkha constituency, located in the Saran district of Bihar is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies that form the Bihar state government. This assembly seat is reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes only. The current MLA from this constituency is Surendar Ram of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), who secured 83,412 votes in the 2020 elections, beating Gyanchand Manjhi of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 9,937 votes.

The 2015 election data showed the total number of registered electors at 283,158. Out of this, 154,745 electors in this constituency during the 2015 elections were male, 128,402 were female and 11 belonged to the third gender. Voter turnout in this election cycle was 55.71 per cent as 157,756 electors out of the total registered electors cast their votes. 

In the last legislative assembly elections in 2020, the Election Commission documented the total number of registered electors at 307,080 in this constituency; where 163,545 electors were male, 143,529 electors were female and 6 electors were of the third gender. Voter turnout in this election cycle was 57.54 per cent as 176,696 electors out of the total registered electors cast their votes.

The 2024 Election Commission data shows the total number of registered electors in Garkha constituency at 318,830 electors. Male registered electors in this constituency amount to 168,041, female registered electors amount to 150,787 and 2 electors of the third gender are also registered. Polling for this constituency took place in the first phase of elections on November 6, 2025.

Garkha and its broader region was part of the Magadh Kingdom in the past which shows its ancient historic legacy as this kingdom was ruled by many dynasties most notably the Mauryas.

This constituency covers an approximate land area of 274.15 square kilometers and its geographic coordinates are 25° 46 '53.8"N 84° 50' 56.0"E. Garkha shares its borders with seven other legislative assembly constituencies of Bihar which are Marhaura, Amnour, Parsa, Sonepur, Maner, Barhara and Chapra.
