At present, BJP’s Janak Singh is an MLA from the constituency. In 2020 elections he defeated Sipahi Lal Mahto of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by a margin of 11,307 votes.The constituency is known for temples and religious culture. People are mostly dependent on agriculture and dairy farming for living.
Notably, Taraiya covers an approximate land area of 368.54 square kilometers. The constituency shares its borders with five other state assembly constituencies which include Baikunthpur, Sahebganj, Amnour, Marhaura and Baniapur.
