Dharmendra, born Dharmendra Singh Deol in 1935 in Punjab, rose to prominence in the 1960s and 70s, becoming one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable leading men. His performances showcased remarkable range – from intense action to soft romance and effortless comedy. Films such as Phool Aur Patthar, Satyakam, Anupama, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, and the timeless Sholay cemented his place as a megastar. His pairing with Hema Malini became one of Bollywood’s most celebrated on-screen romances, later evolving into a real-life marriage.

Fondly known as the "He-Man” of Hindi cinema, Dharmendra was admired not just for his tough hero persona but also for his warmth, humility and gentle nature off-screen. Colleagues often remembered him as someone who carried stardom lightly, always greeting others with affection and grace.

On November 11, several media outlets reported that the actor had passed away. However, the family denied the rumours. His daughter Esha Deol and second wife Hema Malini took to their social media handles to slam the news.

The actor was last seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and had completed work on Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, which is yet to be released.

Dharmendra is survived by his wife Hema Malini, sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, daughters Esha and Ahana, and grandchildren. Details of the funeral and public condolences are expected to be announced soon, as the nation prepares to bid a final farewell to one of its most cherished cinematic legends.
