Delhi Intensifies Pollution Control with No PUC, No Fuel and BS-VI Ban

| Updated on: Dec 19, 2025 | 08:12 AM

Delhi is grappling with severe air pollution, prompting the government to enforce stringent new measures aimed at curbing vehicular emissions. The "No Pollution Under Control (PUC), No Fuel" rule is now active across the city, denying fuel to vehicles without a valid PUC certificate. Petrol pump attendants, along with traffic police and DTC employees, are ensuring strict compliance.

Simultaneously, a ban on non-BS VI vehicles remains in force, restricting older petrol and diesel vehicles, as well as non-Delhi registered non-BS VI vehicles, from entering the capital.

While these steps are intended to improve air quality, concerns are being raised about the inadequate scrappage ecosystem, which features only one automated fitness testing centre and a limited number of authorised yards, potentially hindering the rapid phasing out of older, more polluting vehicles.

The health implications of Delhi's high PM 2.5 levels are profound, with medical experts warning of reduced life expectancy and increased risks of conditions like diabetes, heart attacks, and respiratory infections. Citizens are advised to minimise outdoor activities due to the toxic air quality.
