Delhi-NCR Under Siege: GRAP Stage IV Enforced Amid Severe Plus Air Pollution

| Updated on: Dec 15, 2025 | 08:07 AM

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are currently experiencing a severe air pollution crisis, with air quality deteriorating to the Severe Plus category. The alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) levels have necessitated the immediate enforcement of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage IV across the region. News9 reported on the "Breathing Poison" situation, highlighting the critical health concerns.

AQI readings on December 14, 2025, at 08:00 PM showed alarming figures, with locations such as Rohini, Ashok Vihar, R K Puram, and Wazirpur reaching 500. Other areas like Anand Vihar (492), Narela (480), and ITO (487) also recorded extremely high pollution levels.

Under GRAP Stage IV, comprehensive restrictions have been implemented. These include the complete halt of all construction and demolition activities, closure of stone crushers, brick kilns, and industries using coal or furnace oil.

Entry of diesel trucks, except those carrying essential commodities, is banned, and open burning is strictly prohibited. Measures also extend to daily life, with classes for grades 1-9 and 11 shifting to hybrid mode and outdoor sports suspended by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). A health alert has been issued for vulnerable groups, urging residents to limit outdoor exposure.
