Rahul Gandhi alleges Centre weaponised institutions; BJP hits back, accuses him of defaming India

Rahul Gandhi has accused the Centre of running a "propaganda policy" and misusing institutions to consolidate political power, saying the Opposition is united in challenging laws it disagrees with and fighting for an alternative vision of India. The BJP hit back strongly, with its leaders accusing Gandhi of defaming the country during his overseas remarks and questioning his commitment to parliamentary responsibilities.

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, in his address at the Heartie school in Berlin, launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led government. He then accused the BJP of manipulating the electoral machinery in the country.

The Leader of Opposition also blamed the Center of capturing the intelligence agencies, such as CBI and the ED and labelled it as being weaponised by the BJP. Gandhi also pointed out how the CBI and the ED do not have any cases filed against the BJP. However, there are numerous cases filed against the people who are opposing him.

'No one from the INDIA Alliance believes in the ideology of the RSS'

Gandhi added that the opposition must find ways to respond effectively. “It’s not enough to simply acknowledge problems in the electoral system. We need to develop a method, a system of opposition resistance, that can actually succeed,” Gandhi said.

Responding to a question on the INDIA alliance, Gandhi said people tend to see the alliance building up when an election comes. "Look at it slightly differently. All the parties of the INDIA alliance do not agree with the basic ideology of the RSS. That's the point. And you can ask any of them. None of them will tell you that actually we believe in the ideological position of the RSS. So we are very much united on that question. But we have tactical contests that take place, and we will continue to have them," he said.

“But you will see that when it comes to the Opposition requiring unity—take Parliament, for example—we are very united,” Rahul Gandhi said. “We will contest the BJP on laws we disagree with. This is now a deeper battle than just elections; we are fighting for an alternate vision of India.”

BJP's sharp response

Gandhi’s remarks abroad drew a sharp response from BJP chief and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. “When Parliament is in session, Rahul Gandhi is in Germany giving speeches against India. And when is he giving them? While Prime Minister Modi is being honored repeatedly, he goes abroad to attack India,” Nadda said.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla added that Gandhi is once again on a “Defame India” tour. “He goes abroad, spreads falsehoods about India, and praises China. He is no longer the Leader of the Opposition but the Leader of Propaganda. In Germany, he claimed there is no manufacturing in India and that institutions have been dismantled. This is now Rahul Gandhi’s identity,” Poonawalla said.
