New Delhi: Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal have officially announced the signing of Darwin Nunez from Liverpool on a three-year contract, until June 2028. The club signed the Uruguayan striker for £46.3m.

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 in a deal worth up to £85m and has scored 40 goals for the Merseyside club in three seasons at Anfield. The striker started in just eight Premier League matches during the club's title-winning 2024-25 campaign.

He will join a few top players from the Premier League in Al Hilal, including midfielder Ruben Neves, Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, Fulham and Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chelsea centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

Earlier, Liverpool had rejected a bid from Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr for Nunez in January worth around £60m, but the club had no intention of selling their player midway through the season, as they were competing for major trophies during the second half of the campaign.

The signing of the Uruguayan international is a big statement for the Saudi Pro League and Al Hilal, as they signed the player in the prime of his career from the Premier League at a very reasonable price.

The sale of Nunez will help the Reds' chances of signing a striker. The club has sold several players in the summer transfer window, while Diogo Jota passed away in a tragic car accident. Liverpool sent an opening bid of £110m for Alexander Isak, but they have rejected the bid as they value him at around £150m.

Liverpool are ready to defend their Premier League and have already signed Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. The Merseyside club is also interested in signing Alexander Isak, but their opening offer was rejected by Newcastle United.
