New Delhi: Wolves have sacked manager Vítor Pereira after their 3-0 defeat against Fulham on Saturday, November 1. The defeat left them at the bottom of the table with two points in just 10 games. They are eight points behind the last safe spot. The move came despite his three-year contract extension in September.

The Portuguese head coach was appointed last December, succeeding Gary O’Neil. Before his appointment, Wolves were in the 19th spot, with nine points from 16 matches. He quickly changed the team's performance, and they were safe by late April. They finished in the 16th position, earning 33 points from their last 22 games.

His approach brought a massive widespread praise, with regular appearances in local pubs and restaurants to celebrate victories with supporters. However, in the summer transfer window, Matheus Cunha was sold to Manchester United for £62.5m and Rayan Aït-Nouri to Manchester City for £31m. They brought new players to replace them, who have struggled to make an impact.

'Results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards': Club official statement

Wolves released an official statement confirming the sacking of Pereira, and stated that results and performance have fallen below acceptable standards this season. "As a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary. All eight of Pereira’s backroom staff have also left the club,".

Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi said when giving Pereira a contract extension that "now is a time for stability". Yet six weeks later, Pereira was sacked.

"Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful," Shi said. He further added that the start of the ongoing season has been a big disappointment, and it has reached to a point where a change is necessary.

Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will take training while the club look to appoint a new manager.
