New Delhi: Iga Swiatek won her first Wimbledon title in a one-sided final, beating Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday, July 12. The Pole dominated against the American as the match lasted less than an hour. The Pole became a champion on all three major surfaces after winning the sixth Grand Slam title and her first on grass.

She became the eighth player in the Open Era to win Women’s Singles Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces. Swiatek also became the second woman in the Open Era after Steffi Graf to win a grand slam final 6-0, 6-0 since 1998.

Swiatek was ruthless in the final as she showed no mercy against the American. Anisimova was left shattered after the historic clash, which saw the Pole win her maiden Wimbledon title. She faced immense criticism from the media after her year-long struggle. The Polish media questioned her playing style, coaching and other elements, which clearly frustrated the newly crowned champion.

'Let me do my job': Swiatek blasts the Polish media

After the match, Swiatek slammed the Polish and said that she hopes that they will leave her alone and let her do her job.

"I have the best people around me. I’ve already proved a lot. People want more and more, but this is my own life, my own process. Let me do my job the way I want it," Swiatek said.

She further added that her Wimbledon campaign was about finding clarity, both mentally and physically. Swiatek also said that rather than adding pressure, she chose to simply enjoy the moment, especially on Centre Court.

"I just wanted to enjoy the time I had on Centre Court and enjoy the last hours of me playing well on grass because who knows if it’s going to happen again. I really had fun," she added. After winning the Wimbledon title, Swiatek has silenced her critics with her performance.
