Windhoek: Even as Namibia goes to the polls on November 26, one name has attracted global attention. The unusual name has grabbed attention across the globe. Adolf Hitler Uunona, the politician named after German dictator, Adolf Hitler, is widely expected to retain his seat.

The 59-year-old leader from Swapo party councillor is expected to win for the second time, the projections have said. In 2020 too, Uunona got prominence across the world. That year he won from Ompundja constituency with 85 percent of the votes. He got 1,196 votes while his rival received 213. The constituency had 2,520 registered voters.

Even as he continued to grow steadily in politics, Uunona steadily gained fame across the globe due to his name, which is identical to German Chancellor Adolf Hitler, the dictator who ruled the country during World War II. His period us considered as the darkest in the country.

The Namibian politician has, however, denied any association with Nazi ideology and said that he had "nothing to do" with it. Speaking to BBC earlier, he said, "My father gave me this name Hitler, he didn't understand what the name Adolf Hitler stood for. When I was young, it was just a normal name.” Unnona said it was later that he came to know of the historical wight of the name.

Adolf Hitler Uunona is a member of Swapo party in Namibia. His party has been in power in the country since 199. He is considered as a anti-apartheid campaigner. He has dominated national politics in the country for decades. In recent years, he has seen dip in his support.

In national elections that were held last time, his party lost control of 30 towns and cities,. This, even as the ruling party continues to maintain a strong influence in several areas, including Ompundja.
