Abhishek Sharma slams fastest T20I fifty by an Indian against New Zealand, achieves multiple feats

Team India star Abhishek Sharma continued his sensational run in T20Is with a stunning 84-run knock of 35 balls in the first T20I against New Zealand at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday. The explosive left-hander notched up a fifty off just 22 balls to notch up the fastest fifty by an Indian against the Kiwis in T20Is. Abhishek achieved multiple feats with his cracking 34-ball 85 , which was laced with a staggering eight sixes and five fours. The swashbuckling left-hander took the New Zealand bowlers to the cleaners, smashing them all around the park to provide the hosts with a strong start after they were asked to bat first in the game. India lost opener Sanju Samson (10) and returning Ishan Kishan (8) in quick succession, but Abhishek remained unfazed under pressure as he hammered the New Zealand bowlers, batting in his natural attacking style. Abhishek raced to his fifty off just 22 balls and finished with a cracking 84, missing out on a well-deserved ton. Fastest fifty by an...

'Ball is in RCB's court': KSCA president urges franchise to play IPL 2026 home matches at Chinnaswamy

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Venkatesh Prasad on Wednesday urged Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to not move their matches out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in IPL 2026. Prasad said the ball is in RCB 's court after the KSCA obtained conditional permission from the Karnataka government to hols IPL and international matches at the venue. All cricketing activities at the Chinnaswamy Stadium were halted following a tragic stampede outside the venue during RCB 's IPL title celebrations in June last year. The Karnataka government appointed an expert committee to inspect the stadium and the KSCA has been directed to implement all works and safety measures suggested by the panel. The conditional clearance from the state government to host international and IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium is subject to strict compliance from the KSCA. The venue has not hosted any domestic or international match since...

Suryakumar Yadav-led India will lock horns with New Zealand in the first T20I of the upcoming five-match series at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday, December 21. After a crushing 2-1 defeat in the ODI series, India will aim to bounce back to winning ways as the focus shifts towards the shortest format. India have won their last four bilateral T20I series against the Kiwis and will aim to keep their winning run intact at home. Ahead of the 1st T20I in Nagpur, Indian skipper Suryakumar confirmed in the pre-match presser on Tuesday that wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan is set to make his return for the Men in Blue in the series opener. 'No big deal': Ex-India star on Shubman Gill & Co's historic ODI series defeat against New Zealand at home

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has played down the magnitude of India 's embarrassing 2-1 defeat in the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand . The Kiwis scripted history by pulling off their maiden ODI series victory on Indian soil after beating Shubman Gill & Co. by 41 runs in the third ODI in Indore on Sunday. After suffering their maiden Test series defeat against New Zealand at home in 2024 and losing their first Test series against South Africa at home after 25 years in 2025, India hit a new low under head coach Gautam Gambhir after their ODI series loss against the Kiwis. However, Manjrekar said the defeat against New Zealand is 'no big deal '. Explaining his take, the former India batter said the series defeat didn 't matter in the larger scheme of things as the World Cup is the only relevant competition in the ODI format. Manjrekar argued no one remembers Champions Trophy winners, but World Cup remains the pinnacle. "India losing to...

World no.2 Jannik Sinner reached the men 's singles second round at the Australian Open 2026 after getting a walkover against France 's Hugo Gaston in her opening round clash at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Tuesday. Gaston was two sets down when he abruptly retired from the contest as Sinner booked his spot in the next round. Sinner, who started the match strongly, looked on top of his game in the first-round clash against Gaston. His heavy baseline hitting and exceptional court coverage saw him wrap up the first two sets 6-2, 6-1 in dominant fashion before his opponent retired out, having earlier taken a tumble during the match. Sinner was cruising towards what looked like a dominant win, but was given a free walkover into the second round after Gaston decided to retire. The Italian world no.2 spent just over an hour on the court to wrap up the first two sets in his opening round clash and will take on Australia 's James Duckworth or Croatian Dino Prižmić in...

Pakistan halt T20 World Cup preparations after assuring full support to Bangladesh amid ICC row - Report

Pakistan have reportedly put their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026 on hold after instructions from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which has expressed its support to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) amid its ongoing row with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Pakistan are reportedly mulling pulling out of the T20 World Cup 2026, in support of Bangladesh 's demand to shift their matches away from India in the tournament. The T20 World Cup 2026 is set to get underway on February 07, however, there remains doubt over Bangladesh 's participation in the tournament which is set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. BCB and ICC are involved in a tiff after Bangladesh remain adamant on not travelling to India for the T20 World Cup. '2027 World Cup is too far away': Rohit Sharma's future questioned after his poor show against New Zealand

Senior India batter Rohit Sharma 's future has come under scrutiny once again after his flop show in the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand . With the 2027 ODI World Cup still some time away, Rohit 's poor returns in the ODIs against the Kiwis have led to questions regarding his hunger. Rohit endured an underwhelming outing in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand as he managed only 61 runs in three innings at a dismal average of 20.33 and a strike rate of 76.25. The senior India batter was dismissed cheaply on 26 runs in the first ODI in Vadodara and managed only 24 runs off 38 balls in the 2nd ODI in Rajkot. With India in pursuit of a huge target of 338 runs in the series-deciding third ODI against New Zealand in Indore on Sunday, Rohit was expected to bounce back among the runs and provide India with a strong start at the top. However, the Hitman failed to do so as he was caught off the bowling of Zakary Foulkes after scoring only 11 runs off 13...

Atharva Taide's ton helps Vidarbha beat Saurashtra to clinch maiden Vijay Hazare title

Vidarbha rode on a brilliant ton from opener Atharva Taide and pacer Yash Thakur 's bowling heroics to beat Saurashtra by 38 runs to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 title. After Taide 's brilliant 128 powered Vidarbha to a strong total of 317 runs, batting first in the final, Thakur 's magnificent four-wicket haul helped them successfully defend the target in the summit clash at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on Sunday. Vidarbha produced a fine all-round performance in the final to clinch their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy title under skipper Harsh Dubey, denying Saurashtra their third trophy. Put into bat first, Taide led the charge with a phenomenal ton. He opened the batting with in-form Aman Mokhade, and the duo got Vidarbha off to a solid start with an 80-run stand for the first wicket. Mokhade, who finished the tournament as the highest run-getter with 781 runs, was dismissed on 33 off 45 balls after a good start. However, Taide continued his...
