"The BCCI and everyone involved, all the franchises, all of us together, we should look back and be very proud of what has been achieved. Going forward, it would be good to have more matches, we can start with two extra games (for every team)," Wadia told PTI. "Also, at some point, we need to look at reviving the Champions League to shorten the gap between the end of the IPL and the auction and keep that excitement alive. "And bringing in the international exposure by having auctions in Jeddah, Dubai, and Abu...

Why Rabada absence didn't matter for South Africa in Kolkata Test

New Delhi: South Africa 's ability to bounce back from absence of star players in key matches led to their victory in the first Test against India. The Proteas were without their premier pacer Kagiso Rabada in Kolkata but managed to register a 30-run win on a turning track at Eden Gardens inside three days. It was the reigning World Test Champions ' first win in a Test in India in 15 years, which gave them an unsurpassable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. South Africa have often battled odds and punched above their weight to win the WTC and have continued in the same vein in this cycle too, with a 1-1 draw in Pakistan. They are now eyeing their first Test series in India in 25 years and Rabada pointed to their fighting spirit for being in an advantageous situation. "No matter who sits out, we can still find a way to win. (Skipper) Temba (Bavuma) has been crucial for us, but he hasn 't played every game. I haven 't played this game," Rabada said in a Cricket South...

Haaland's Norway qualify for World Cup, push Italy into playoffs

New Delhi: Norway qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1998 with a 4-1 rout of Italy, pushing the four-time champions into the play-offs for the third successive campaign. Norway completed their qualifying campaign with a perfect record of eight victories, six points above Italy, who failed to win in the play-offs in the last two edition to miss out on qualification to the tournament. Italy needed to win by nine goals in Milan on Sunday due to Norway 's superior goal difference and went ahead through Francesco Pio Esposito 's close-range finish in the 10th minute mark. The hosts came close to scoring several times in the first half but the table turned in after the break as Antonio Nusa equalised in the 63rd minute with a left-foot finish from inside the box. From there on Norway wrested control and their star striker Erling Haaland put them ahead in the 78th minute as he was left unmarked to volley home with power and precision. He then wrapped up the points...

No handshake in India-Pakistan Asia Cup Rising Stars clash

New Delhi: India A and Pakistan Shaheens avoided avoided handshakes before the start of their Asia Cup Rising Stars match in Doha on Sunday, after a controversy in Asia Cup over senior national cricket teams refusal to do so in September. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl as India skipper Jitesh Sharma and his Pakistani counterpart Irfan Khan went their separate ways after the national anthems. South Africa not only a fast-bowling country anymore, claims coach after 1st Test win

New Delhi: South Africa coach Shukri Conrad hopes spinners will gradually emerge from a country known for being fast-bowling oriented after their 30-run win over India in the first Test in Kolkata. Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram scripted their first test win in India as the hosts were bowled out for 93 in chase of 124 on the third day at Eden Gardens. South Africa came to India after forcing a 1-1 draw in Pakistan and now have taken a 1-0 lead in a tw0-match series. "We are thrilled that we can come here to the subcontinent with a quality pack of spinners. We were always found wanting when we came to the subcontinent. I think it was a mindset change as well, that you 've got to start showing your belief in spin bowlers," Conrad said after their win. "I think it will do wonders for our game back home as well because youngsters can now see there 's a line of sight that we 're keen on spinners as well. It 's not only a fast bowling country.” Last...
