Bengaluru: Kamraj Road to reopen fully for traffic after more than 6 years
The Kamraj Road in Bengaluru is set to fully open for traffic in January next year. This road had been closed for 6.5 years due to metro construction and tunneling work being done for the Namma Metro in the city. As the road remained closed, motorists were forced to take long detours to reach certain places like Brigade Road, Commercial Street and adjoining commercial areas. This however is set to change in the New Year, 2026.
New Delhi: The Kamraj Road in Bengaluru is all set to fully reopen for traffic in January 2026. The road has remained closed for more than 6 years now. The reopening would bring major relief to commuters in Bengaluru's business district, according to a report in Bangalore Mirror.
Road closed for metro construction
The road remained closed all these years, for the construction of the Pink Line of the Namma Metro. Work on construction of underground metro stations and tunnel work had prevented the opening of Kamraj Road. As the road remained closed, motorists were forced to take long detours to reach certain places like Brigade Road, Commercial Street and adjoining commercial areas.
In 2024, the road was partially opened, but full use of the road was still prevented for more than a year. Now however, authorities have announced that the road will be reopened in the New Year. The officials from Bangalore Metro Rail corporation said that metro construction work was now in its final stages, and they hoped that it would be completed soon. They blamed the delays on the continued movement of heavy material required for underground metro station construction and construction of interchange stations at MG Road and Cubbon Road.
With the partial opening of the road in 2024, the traffic from MG Road towards Cubbon Road through the Cauvery Emporium had eased a bit, but this was not true for traffic going in the opposite direction. Now however the Pink Line of Namma Metro, connecting Nagawara and Kalena Agrahara corridors is complete, and one carriageway of Kamraj Road is also open for commuters. The remaining part of the carriageway is expected to open in the next 15 days and this would help ease traffic congestions.
