Bengaluru: Techie shoots bank manager wife on busy road, cites suspected affair and marital discord

New Delhi: In a gruesome incident that can send a chill down your spine, a 40-year-old software professional in Bengaluru allegedly shot his estranged wife on the road. Yes, you read that right.

The alleged murder took place on Tuesday evening in West Bengaluru, during rush hour. The victim was 39-year-old Bhuvaneshwari, Union Bank of India's assistant manager at the Basaveshwaranagar branch. The accused, Balamurugan, was an employee at a private IT firm, both hailing from Tamil Nadu's Salem.

Bhuvaneshwari was living with their children, a 12-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter, in a rented house in Rajajinagar. The couple got married in 2011, and was living apart for about 1.5 years after frequent fights took place between them. According to the police, he suspected that Bhuvaneshwari was having an affair.

Tracing a new address

Bhuvaneshwari sought legal separation, but Balamurugan did not budge. Six months ago, following her transfer, she began to live in a new rented residence with her children. Balamurugan, who was not informed, allegedly traced her new address about four months ago. He quit his job and shifted to Cholurpalya in Kempapura Agrahara near her residence.

About a week ago, Bhuvaneshwari sent Balamurugan a divorce notice. It infuriated him, and he allegedly decided to murder her. On Tuesday evening, he shot Bhuvaneshwari on 1st Main Road in the Rajajinagar Industrial Area while she was returning home from work. Balamurugan, after committing the murder, surrendered at a police station along with the pistol. He reportedly fired four rounds, with two hitting her head and two striking her left hand. When people took her to the hospital, she was declared brought dead.
