Bengaluru: The garden city is set to face yet another spell of heavy rain, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next three days. The warning follows persistent reports of waterlogging and traffic chaos across several parts of the city, particularly in low-lying neighbourhoods that are prone to flooding.
Official data shows that Bengaluru received 16.6 mm of rainfall during the first six days of October, with an additional 7 mm recorded in the past 24 hours. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has also predicted gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph across Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts, extending to nearby regions including Kolar, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapura and Ramanagara.
The overnight downpour, accompanied by strong winds, resulted in trees being uprooted and branches breaking across multiple areas, worsening congestion on major roads. The Greater Bengaluru Authority confirmed that at least seven trees were felled and 25 branches snapped due to the storm.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Traffic Police issued several alerts throughout the morning, advising motorists of delays and diversions on key routes caused by flooding and fallen debris.
The IMD forecast suggests cloudy conditions with intermittent rainfall over the coming days. On October 9, the city is expected to remain generally overcast with occasional rain or thundershowers, and temperatures ranging between 27 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius amid high humidity.
Similar weather is anticipated on October 10 and 11, with cloudy skies and light rain or thundershowers in isolated areas. Daytime temperatures are likely to reach around 29 degrees Celsius, dropping to about 20 degrees Celsius at night, keeping the atmosphere mild and relatively pleasant.
