Delhi: Elderly woman injured after objects hurled at Radha Rani Vivah Utsav; 3 detained

The event was part of the three-day Radha Rani Vivah Utsav (wedding festival) held on Saturday evening at A-125, Pandara Road, at the residence of S.P. Mani. Around 5 PM, as the bhajan-kirtan (devotional singing) program began, a green coconut suddenly fell from above, striking the singer's hand. New Delhi: A 60-year-old woman in Delhi’s Pandara Road area suffered serious injuries after coconuts, stones, and glass pieces fell on her from a nearby construction site. The incident occurred during a wedding-themed religious function, where the elderly woman, identified as Madhu Manocha, had been invited to perform as the lead singer.

The event was part of the three-day Radha Rani Vivah Utsav (wedding festival) held on Saturday evening at A-125, Pandara Road, at the residence of S.P. Mani. Around 5 PM, as the bhajan-kirtan (devotional singing) program began, a green coconut suddenly fell from above, striking the singer’s hand. What happened at the program?

The situation worsened minutes later when a piece of stone dropped into the pandal. Before people could react, a piece of a glass tumbler was allegedly thrown from the building above, hitting Madhu Manocha on the face. She sustained serious injuries, and blood spread across the pandal. She was immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Upon receiving information, the police reached the spot, and a forensic team collected samples. Initial findings reveal that a construction site located directly behind the venue is suspected to be the source of the objects thrown. Police have detained three labourers from the site for questioning and are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

Complaint lodged

The victim’s family has submitted a written complaint, and police are investigating the matter from all angles. The attack during a religious gathering has created panic among local residents, prompting authorities to take the case very seriously.
