Mumbai: Man beaten up for posting anti-Christmas message on WhatsApp status
A man was beaten up in Navi Mumbai after posting objectionable WhatsApp status regarding Christmas festival. The victim was identified as Arjun Singh, who owns a mobile store and is reportedly a member of Bajrang Dal. He had posted a WhatsApp status asking people to not wish him on Christmas, or else be ready to face consequences. Angry youths from the area then reportedly attacked him and also broke his shop. A case has been registered in the matter and investigations are on.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident reported from Mumbai, a man was reportedly beaten up for posting an anti-Christmas WhatsApp status. The beating happened at a mobile shop owned by the man. Several youths, reportedly Christians entered the shop and beat him up badly. A video of the entire incident has now gone viral.
What was the WhatsApp status of the youth?
According to reports, the man who was beaten up reportedly posted a controversial WhatsApp status. He had posted a message in his status, asking everyone not to wish him on Christmas. He said that if anyone wishes him, then they will get a befitting reply.
As the status went viral several Christian youths living in the area entered his shop and beat him up badly. The entire incident was caught on CCTV cameras installed inside the shop. Later the youths who had beaten him up, also filed a case against the man.
The victim has been identified as Arjun Singh. He claimed that when he visited the police station to file a complaint against the youth who beat him up, the police initially refused to register his complaint. He had visited the Rabale MIDC police station, said Singh.
He claimed that it was only after members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal reached the Rabale police station and showed the CCTV footage to the officers there, that they registered a complaint against the youth.
Following the incident, there was considerable tension in the area, due to which the police had to increase security.
'They could have asked me to delete status': Arjun Singh defends himself
Arjun Singh said that if anyone had found his status offensive, they could have asked him to delete it. He claimed that he would have willingly obliged. But, he said, these people not only entered the shop and broke things, but also beat me up.
Sunil Waghmare, senior police inspector of Rabale MIDC police station, said "We have registered a case against both parties. We have arrested the accused from both parties. "
There is peace in the area as of now, claimed the police officer. He appealed to people to remain calm. He promised action against the guilty. He said that whoever is guilty will not be spared. Police have increased vigilance in the area.
