New Delhi: Ranveer Singh’s big-budget action thriller Dhurandhar is finally hitting cinemas on December 5, but the early numbers tell a worrying story for the makers. Despite constant buzz, legal controversies, and a star-studded cast, advance bookings are quieter than expected for such a massive film.
With Dhanush–Kriti Sanon’s Tere Ishk Mein also in theatres, Dhurandhar now needs a solid walk-in crowd and a strong word-of-mouth push to match recent box office benchmarks.
Dhurandhar is an underworld-based action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, with themes of espionage and patriotism woven into the story. The film follows criminals, informants, operatives, and spies, and presents Ranveer Singh in a gritty, intense avatar. The ensemble cast also includes Akshaye Khanna, Sunjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan in key roles, adding weight to the project.
Industry tracker Sacnilk shows that Dhurandhar has had muted advance bookings so far. The film has reportedly earned about Rs 4.24 crore in advance sales, including block bookings, with the figure dropping to around Rs 2.59 crore without them, across nearly 58,801 tickets and 4,016 shows in India. Delhi-NCR and Mumbai are leading with over Rs 63 lakh each, followed by Karnataka at close to Rs 40 lakh and Gujarat contributing around Rs 20 lakh.
When compared to 2024’s biggest Hindi openings, Dhurandhar is currently far behind. Films like Chhaava (around Rs 17.89 crore in advance bookings), Saiyaara (about Rs 12.49 crore), and War 2 (nearly Rs 32 crore) have set a much faster pace at the ticket window. For Dhurandhar to come close to that league, trade feels Thursday night and Friday’s spot bookings must spike sharply.
Trade sources remain cautiously hopeful, with Pinkvilla estimating a day 1 range of Rs 14–18 crore, while Sacnilk pegs the opening around a little over Rs 15 crore, depending on last-minute rush. The film’s performance will also be measured against Ranveer Singh’s past hits, led by Padmaavat (Rs 302 crore), followed by Simmba, Bajirao Mastani (Rs 184 crore), Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (Rs 152 crore), and Gully Boy (Rs 139 crore) at the domestic box office.
