According to IMDb, Sanjay Dutt was offered a role in KGF: Chapter 1 but turned it down. He later accepted the role in the film's sequel, KGF: Chapter 2. In 2022, he also opened up about how the makers of KGF 2 wanted him to shoot the heavy-duty action sequences in front of the green screen, so he doesn't exert himself, but he refused as he wanted to 'shoot the film correctly'.

Starring Rocking Star Yash, KGF was the first Kannada movie to release in five languages. It also became the highest grossing Kannada film to gross Rs 250 crore worldwide and its sequel KGF: Chapter 2 surpassed the total earnings of its first installment. It was also the fourth highest grossing Hindi dubbed film after the Baahubali films and Rajinikanth's 2.0.
