New Delhi: When Adolescence was released globally on Netflix, it created a storm, igniting debates among people. On Sunday (September 15), the show created history at 77th Primetime Emmy Awards after British actor Owen Cooper, 15, won the prestigious award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series at the 2025 Emmys.
For his powerful performance in Stephan Graham’s show, he won the Emmy Award at the age of 15, creating history. He is now the youngest male actor to win the coveted award on the international stage.
As Owen Cooper was announced the winner, the crowd cheered louder for him and he thanked his parents, cast and crew for the big win. His speech after bagging the award stole several hearts and it soon became viral.
He said in his speech, “A couple years back I didn’t expect to be in the United States, let alone here. Tonight proves if you listen, you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing three years ago. I’m here now. If you step out of your comfort zone, who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible”, drawing applause and appreciation.
The limited series, Adolescence, revolves around Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who is accused of murdering his classmate. The show draws inspiration from real-life events involving youth violence and stabbings. His nuanced and raw performance was well-appreciated by the audience, and the show received over 141 million views in just three months.
