New Delhi: Adam Sandler’s much-awaited return as the hot-headed golf prodigy has officially landed on Netflix. Happy Gilmore 2 is a sequel to the 1996 cult classic that brings back the beloved character with a new twist. This time, Gilmore’s lured back into the game to fund his daughter’s ballet dreams. But aside from the comedy and celebrity cameos, what’s really catching viewers’ attention is where the sequel was shot.
Unlike the original film, which had been entirely shot in British Columbia, Canada, the follow-up was filmed across various picturesque locations in New Jersey. Production had kicked off in September 2024, with Adam reportedly relocating to the state with his family during filming.
A major portion of Happy Gilmore 2 was captured at Montclair Golf Club in Verona, New Jersey. Established in 1893, the club, one of the oldest in the country, offered its lush 36-hole course for several key scenes. Pleasantdale Château in West Orange was used for a segment where Gilmore is honoured among golfing greats like Tiger Woods. The estate was originally acquired by Charles Walter Nichols in 1912 and has appeared in projects like The Sopranos and Cadillac Records.
Several more greens were featured, including Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, which had reportedly shut operations temporarily to accommodate the shoot. But it wasn’t all tees and turf; beach sequences were filmed at Ideal Beach, a pet-friendly spot in New Jersey where Gilmore is seen trading his golf swing for sandy drills.
The production also visited Verona Town Hall, which later posted behind-the-scenes photos with Sandler, captioned warmly with “Come Back Anytime.” Additional filming was carried out in Kearny, Closter, and at Newark Liberty International Airport.
More intimate and quirky sequences unfolded at Steve’s Burgers on Route 46, Kim’s Nails in Maplewood, Goldberg’s World Famous Deli & Bagels in Millburn, and Lokl Café in Morristown.
