Mumbai: Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar is witnessing a massive box office momentum. Strong word of mouth and sustained footfalls have continued to push the film’s theatrical run, with audiences repeatedly praising its raw, visceral action sequences.  The film’s graphic combat and uncompromising violence have emerged as major talking points, driving curiosity and repeat viewership.

Much of the credit for this impact has been attributed to the film’s action design. In an exclusive interview with TV9 English, action director Aejaz Gulab opened up about the creative process behind Dhurandhar’s adrenaline-heavy and gore-filled sequences, shedding light on the precision and planning involved.

“The director’s concept and vision was clear. We have shot exactly how he had narrated to us. The action is for exhibition. So, he was very particular about everything,” Aejaz said. He revealed that even minute details were strictly monitored, including the weight used in a crucial murder sequence. “The weight used by Rehman Dakait when he kills his father had to be exactly 5kg. It should look like he has actually smashed his head. We made a prosthetic body so that he could hit it for real.”

Aejaz also highlighted the dedication shown by the lead actors. “Akshaye Khanna was very cooperative… despite not being an action hero, he has done the action perfectly because he followed the instructions,” he said. Praise was also reserved for Ranveer Singh, who reportedly performed all his action scenes himself. “Ranveer Singh was awesome. He was so keen on doing the action sequences. He used to rehearse the action pieces well before the shoot so that the scenes are not compromised,” the action director added.

Speaking about his collaboration with director Aditya Dhar, Aejaz noted that Dhurandhar marked their first project together. “He called me for Dhurandhar and said let’s do this one,” he recalled, adding that Dhar constantly pushed for originality and brutality. “He’d tell me, ‘Aejaz bhai, think about something more brutal. We can tone it down later.’”

One of the film’s most discussed moments involves Arjun Rampal’s torture scene. “We thought of multiple things before deciding on what you see in the film – multiple small hooks on his face and other parts of the body,” Aejaz explained. He stressed that repetition was deliberately avoided. “There’s no action sequence in Dhurandhar that one would say it’s been copied from another film. It’s all new action.”

Aejaz also spoke about Sanjay Dutt’s screen presence. “When Baba used to arrive on set, he has his aura of his own… he was so intense as SP Chaudhary Aslam,” he said, adding that the cast was unaware the characters were based on real people until the trailer’s release.
