Zarine Khan prayer meet: Mumbai witnessed an outpouring of grief and love as the Khan family came together to bid farewell to Zarine Khan, wife of veteran actor-producer Sanjay Khan and mother of Sussanne and Zayed Khan. The celebrated interior designer, author, and former actress passed away on November 7 at the age of 81 after battling age-related health issues.
Her prayer meet, held earlier this week in Mumbai, was attended by close friends, family, and members of the film fraternity. The atmosphere was filled with emotion as her loved ones remembered her grace, kindness, and warmth.
Zarine is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan, daughters Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Khan Ali, son Zayed Khan, and nine grandchildren. A heartfelt video shared by Farah Khan Ali on Instagram captured moments from the gathering, showing the family visibly heartbroken. Guests were seen leaving messages in a condolence book beside a large portrait of Zarine, while cherished family photographs played on a screen in her memory.
Sussanne Khan was seen in tears as her father, Sanjay Khan, took to the stage to speak about his late wife. Fighting back his emotions, he shared, “I met her when I was 18 and she was 14. I found my home when I looked into her eyes.” His moving words left many in the audience teary-eyed.
Actor Hrithik Roshan, who attended the ceremony with his partner Saba Azad, also took the stage to express his admiration and gratitude. “It has been my privilege to be loved by you,” Hrithik said, honouring his former mother-in-law’s memory.
Zayed Khan, equally emotional, described his mother as his divine strength, saying, “My mother was my God. I’ll miss her deeply.”
The prayer ceremony reflected Zarine’s secular beliefs and was conducted with blessings from four major faiths: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism. The symbolic gesture was a tribute to her inclusive spirit and the Khan family’s multicultural legacy.
Bollywood personalities, including Saif Ali Khan, Jeetendra, Rakesh Roshan, Salim Khan, and many others, attended the service.
Sharing her emotions online, Farah Khan Ali wrote, “To her, all were equal, and all equally important. She had a golden heart, just like her name, which means ‘to shine’. And shine she did — the brightest of all.”
Zarine Khan was laid to rest with Hindu rituals, with her son Zayed performing the final rites.
