Jaya Bachchan-Dharmendra: The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of Dharmendra, one of its most celebrated and beloved stars, who passed away on November 24 at his Mumbai residence. The veteran actor, 89, had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month due to ongoing health concerns. Days after his demise, an old anecdote from Jaya Bachchan has resurfaced online, reminding fans of the timeless charm Dharmendra carried throughout his career.

During a 2007 episode of Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan candidly admitted that she once had a huge crush on the actor. Her revelation was delivered with her trademark honesty and added a touch of humour to the show.

Recalling her early days in the industry, she said, "I think I should have played Basanti because I loved Dharmendra. When I saw him for the first time, I got so nervous, I didn’t know what to do. There was this fantastic looking man. He was wearing these white pants and shoes, looking like a Greek god.”

What made the moment especially memorable was that Hema Malini, Dharmendra’s wife, was seated right beside her. Hema smiled through the confession, fully aware of the admiration Dharmendra commanded. The laughter and mutual affection shared on the couch made the exchange endearing to audiences.

Karan Johar, bringing up Jaya’s film Guddi, added that the movie itself explored a young girl’s obsession with Dharmendra. Jaya Bachchan didn’t shy away from agreeing, further sharing another charming memory: "When I was introduced to him for the first time, I went, and I hid behind a sofa… I got so nervous, I didn’t know what to do. He was such a fantastic-looking man. I still remember what he wore… a white shirt and white trousers… looked like a Greek god.”

Karan then turned to Hema Malini, revealing that she, too, had once described Dharmendra the same way. Hema laughed and said, "And I fell in love with him.”
