About the movie

Produced by Dulquer Salmaan, Rana Daggubati, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese under Spirit Media Pvt. Ltd. and Wayfarer Films Pvt. Ltd., Kaantha is set in the 1950s Madras film industry. The story centres on a horror film named Saantha being made, and explores the intense relationship and rivalry between a mentor, played by Samuthirakani, and his mentee, portrayed by Dulquer Salmaan.

The film's teaser, released on Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday in July, received positive reactions, promising a gripping tale of bruised egos and power struggles within the film world. The drama between the characters captures both the making of a film and how it impacts their personal lives.

Jhanu Chanthar composed the music, adding to the film’s vintage atmosphere. Dani Sanchez Lopez was responsible for cinematography, with art direction handled by Ramalingam. Additional screenplay credits go to Thamizh Prabha, and Lewellyn Anthony Gonsalves took charge of editing.

Dulquer Salmaan, who also produced Kaantha, has recently appeared in a cameo role in the Malayalam film Kalyani, produced by Priyadarshini and Naslen. He has other upcoming projects as well, including Aakasamlo Oka Tara in Telugu and I’m Game in Malayalam.

Kaantha promises to be a fascinating look at the filmmaking world of the 1950s with its emotional story of competition, mentorship, and ambitions in cinema.
