New Delhi: Renowned Malayalam actor and mimicry artiste Kalabhavan Nawas was found dead on the evening of August 1 in a hotel room at Ernakulam’s Chottanikara, in Kochi. The 51-year-old performer was in town for the shoot of the upcoming film Prakambanam. He was discovered unresponsive by hotel staff after he failed to check out at the expected time.

It was revealed that the late Malayalam actor had returned to the hotel following the day’s shoot, intending to collect his luggage before heading home. When he didn't emerge from his room for an extended period, hotel staff reportedly went up to investigate and found him lying unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Kalabhavan Nawas' death reason

Initial reports have indicated that the suspected cause of death is cardiac arrest, although confirmation is still pending. A post-mortem was scheduled to be conducted on August 2 to determine the precise cause.

According to crew members from the film set, Nawas had wrapped up filming earlier that evening and appeared to be in good health when he departed the location around 5:30 pm. His colleagues shared that he had been looking forward to a short break, with two days off scheduled before filming resumed.

News of Nawas’s sudden demise has left the Malayalam entertainment fraternity in shock. Widely appreciated for his mimicry and comic timing, he had earned a loyal fan base through his performances both on-screen and on stage. His legacy in the mimicry circuit, particularly through his association with the famed Kalabhavan troupe, had made him a familiar face in households across Kerala.

The hotel authorities have extended full cooperation to the investigation, while family members and close friends have arrived in Kochi to oversee formalities.
