New Delhi: Upcoming romantic comedy, Param Sundari, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, is all set to release on August 29. According to trade experts, the film is expected to perform well at the box office. The film has already sold 10,000 tickets just within 24 hours in its advance booking sales and is likely have a decent opening day collections, considering the trailer and songs have been received well by audiences.
In an exclusive conversation with TV9 English, trade experts, Girish Johar and Akshaye Rathi, opined over how much the film is likely to earn on its opening day and if Ganesh Chaturthi festival’s partial holiday will benefit the film during the opening weekend.
While the story is something not new and has been already compared with 2 States and Chennai Express, producer and film business expert Girish Johar feels, “The film is looking quite fresh and vibrant and the pair is also looking quite co-ed. Though the story may be a little not new, but I am quite confident that the makers do have a pleasant surprise up their sleeve and additionally one song also of theirs has done quite well. So all this adds up to the curiosity level at the box office.”
When asked how much the film is likely to mint on its opening day, he said, “I would be happy if the film opens anywhere around Rs 4 to Rs 5 crore on its day 1 and from there onwards, word of mouth, feedback and everything can take it forward accordingly.”
On the other hand, trade analyst, Akshaye Rathi opined, “I guess the magic of great music and Maddox coming together with some really good visuals, the way they've been shot, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually comes as a pleasant surprise for the audience and the trade with numbers that can go up to a good Rs 7 To Rs 8 crore on day one.”
When asked if festivities will benefit the movie’s earning at the box office, Girish Johar stated, “At the end of the day, it is the film which outworks, everyone watches a good film, they take their time out, even in their festivities, it's a partial holiday also for certain other people, so you know that can also add, so at the end of the day it all boils down to content.”
According to Girish Johar, “No one knew what Saiyaara could do, no one knows what Param Sundari can do, we all hope every Friday we have a blockbuster hitting Saiyaara, or Bahubali or Chhaava.”
On the other hand, Akshaye Rathi is of the opinion, “I don't think any film benefits from the craze of any other in the same genre. It's always a question of the merit of every respective film's content. So while Saiyaara has made people realise that romantic films do really well at the box office, I think it's also a question of the merits of Param Sundari which will really drive it.”
Girish Johar also opened up about Janhvi Kapoor being criticised for her South Indian accent in the film. He shared, “There two things involved in this, one is the director's vision, if he feels that a traditional South Indian actress, Malayalam actress would have worked better for the role, that is his call. Secondly, it is the producer's call because the producer has to see the commercial viability of the film, so at the end of the day, we are making commercial entertainers, that is what the film is all about, so it all depends on what these two decision makers are, so I can leave it only to them.”
