Mumbai: Bollywood star Ranveer Singh is facing massive backlash for mimicking Kantara's Daivas on the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) stage in Goa. However, a few came in support of the actor, stating that Kannada actor Rishab Shetty did not warn Ranveer against the enactment. It was then that determined netizens dug out a video that showed the Kantara Chapter 1 director cautioning Ranveer.
Videos circulating online showed Ranveer interacting with the filmmaker and the superstar Rajinikanth. One of the clips showed Ranveer greeting Rishab and proceeding to make faces, mimicking Daivas from Kantara. Immediately, Rishab is seen putting up a finger and trying to stop the Bollywood actor from imitating Daivas. A video of the incident, shot from another angle, also confirmed the Kannada actor's disapproval of Ranveer's enactment.
Soon after, the Bollywood actor got on stage and said, "I saw that in the theatres, Rishab, it was an outstanding performance. Especially when the female ghost gets inside your body, that performance, that one shot…” He added, "Did you see Kantara, sir? Did you see that one shot that he gave?”
He then took off his sunglasses and mimicked Daivas on stage. Further, he stated, "Anybody here want to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy. Tell him.”
The video of Ranveer sparked online criticisms. One wrote, "Ranveer Singh is that extrovert person who eventually ends up crossing the line and becomes quiet after all the backlash. This will surely humble him. Disrespectful to the core." Another wrote, "Never ever try doing this, you are simply putting yourself in trouble."
Many were livid at the insensitive enactment of Daivas while wearing shoes. “Rishab stayed calm and chose not to escalate it at such a high-profile event," said a source to Bangalore Times.
