New Delhi: Nearly five years after Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely passing, filmmaker Rumi Jaffery has opened up about a project that refuses to fade with time. A script once close to the late actor’s heart is finally ready again, carrying memories, emotions, and unfinished dreams.
As the filmmaker prepares to take it to the floors this year, the film stands not just as cinema, but as a heartfelt tribute to an artist whose passion continues to inspire millions across generations worldwide today forever.
Filmmaker Rumi Jaffery recently shared an emotional update about his long-gestating film, revealing that he has finally revised the script that was Sushant Singh Rajput’s aakhri pasand, or final choice. Speaking about the project, Jafry said the decision to revive the film this year came after much introspection, as the story remains deeply intertwined with memories of the late actor.
Rumi spoke exclusively to TV9 about the film. He said, “For me, making this film will be like a birthday gift for Sushant,” underlining how personal the journey has been. He recalled how excited Sushant was when they first discussed the story, adding that the actor instantly connected with the narrative and its emotional core.
The filmmaker shared that several script readings had taken place earlier, even before the project was put on hold. Each reading, however, proved to be emotionally overwhelming. “Every time I sat down to read the script, memories and flashbacks of Sushant would come flooding back,” he said, explaining why it took him time to gather the strength to move forward.
According to Rumi, Sushant was particularly enthusiastic about the film’s performance-heavy aspects. The actor was thrilled about the extensive dance sequences planned for the project and had shown keen interest in preparing for them. His passion and dedication during discussions left a lasting impression on the filmmaker.
Calling it Sushant Singh Rajput’s favourite story, Rumi Jaffery said the film now carries a responsibility beyond storytelling. While details about casting and production are being kept under wraps, the director is clear about one thing: the film will be made with honesty and heart.
As the project finally moves towards production this year, it promises to be more than just a cinematic venture. For Jafry, it is a way of keeping Sushant’s spirit alive, celebrating his love for cinema, and fulfilling a dream the actor once held close.
