30-year-old man dies as pistol tucked in waist goes off accidentally in Punjabs Fazilka

Harwinder Singh tragically died in Punjab after a pistol tucked in his waist accidentally discharged. The incident occurred in Dhani Sucha Singh village, Fazilka, as the man rose from a sofa. Critically injured, he succumbed en route to Bathinda. Police confirmed it was an accidental death.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a 30-year-old man died when a pistol tucked in his waist accidentally went off. The freak accident took place in Dhani Sucha Singh village of Fazilka district in Punjab on Monday evening.

The deceased, Harwinder Singh was also known as Sonu. He had recently returned from abroad and settled in Dhani Sucha Singh. He was married and had a two-year-old daughter. His last rites were performed on Tuesday afternoon.

After being informed about the incident, Balluana police station SHO Ravinder Sharma visited the house and scanned the CCTV footage. In the video, Harwinder can be seen sitting on a sofa with some of his relatives. A loaded gun was tucked into his waist, and as he got up from the sofa, it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck him in the abdomen.

Harwinder was critically injured, and rushed to a government hospital. From there, he was referred to Bathinda. However, he died on the way to Bathinda.

His father won recent panchayat samiti polls

Aam Aadmi Party leaders (AAP), including MLA Goldy Musafir and villagers, reached the government hospital on receiving the information. Musafir condoled Harwinder's death. The deceased's father, Darshan Singh, had won the panchayat samiti election a few days back.

On Tuesday, the police carried out a post-mortem examination. Police recorded the statement of Harpinder's father. After taking action under Section 194 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), they handed over the body to the family for cremation. Preliminary investigation suggested the death was accidental.
